It's really not nostalgia. They only removed the tolls about 10 years ago.
Here's some nostalgia... Remember driving down I-95 and it would end in the Carolinas? You would have to use US 301 for part of your trip.

I not only remember that, but as a kid, I remember going down US 1 (before any interstates) and having to throw coins in every few miles(probably nickles and dimes back then).

We recently moved to south Florida (Delray Beach area) and we avoid I-95 at all costs down here. We go up and over or under it every day. They can't add on enough lanes to accomadate the traffic... WHEW! We do travel back home now and again (upstate NY) and will be making that trip up again in July. We will take the turnpike to Ft. Pirece and then to I-95. From here to about Pt. St. Lucie is bumper to bumper. It's not worth the hassle. We have been traveling to Florida since about 1982-83. We don't even need a trip tic or maps anymore...LOL. We have seen them completely redo I-95 in Jacksonville twice and I here they are doing it again... LOL. Have a nice day. Karol

Yes, I greatly remember the whole enchalata. There used to be three tolls on I-95 between Richmond and Petersburg, VA each a quarter (before they went up to 50 cents back in 1989). The first toll was located near the Belvidere St. exit in downtown Richmond. The second toll was near the Chippenham Parkway exit. And the last toll was near the Temple Avenue exit in Colonial Heights. There were also two Petersburg tolls located on both I-85 (cost 20 cents) and I-95 at the I-85 exit (cost 15 cents) before they disappeared back in 1987 and 1989.

Once again, I greatly remember ALL of the tolls on I-95's Richmond-Petersburg Turnpike up to its removal back in 1992 when they changed all of the exit numbers. However, the only tolls around Richmond that still exist are Route 195's Downtown Expressway, the Powhite Parkway tolls, and the new Route 895 toll near I-95 and the Chippenham Parkway interchange.
