Virginia drivers may be asked to pay tolls along Interstate 95, but the revenue from the tolls would contribute little to needed road maintenance and construction throughout … state spends for maintaining I-95 annually.

Re: Virginia I-95 Drivers May Start Paying Tolls
This would be a return to days past, when Virginia had a series of tolls in the Richmond-Petersburg area, that were each for ridiculously low amounts of money. At that time I remember thinking I'd just as soon pay a dollar once (I'm not sure they even added up to that much) and be done with it.
The fun part is that I did a NY-to-FL road trip in 1992 and paid the tolls going down, but the tolls--and the booths!--were eliminated before I returned ten days later.

Yes, I definitely remember the days when the Richmond-Petersburg Turnpike (via both Interstates 95 and 85) were inundated with tolls. It was back in 1987 when the I-85 toll was removed at the turnpike's southern terminus. A few years later, the last I-95 toll in Petersburg, VA worth 15 cents was removed. Then it was back in 1992 when all of the tolls on I-95 was removed as the interchange numbers first changed into the mileage system.
