Changing speed limits to 75mph

Speed limits should be changed to 75mph because to make traffic flow better especially on NJTPK between exits 1-10 and also on PATPK. They have it on the west coast we should have it on the east coast.

I disagree. SPeed limits are set at higher limits out west because of less densely populated areas while at the same time, the interstates (or/and freeways) were built in modern times (at interstate standards) as oppose to NYC where Robert Moses built his highways in the pre-interstate era (1920s-1940s) resulting in narrow lanes, narrow shoulders, unsafe geometric ramps and curves and so on. A higher speed limit dosent always make a road safer; motorists who abide the keep right/pass left rule of thumb on a interstate/freeway/expressway&arterial with no left turns at intersections, traffic flow on highways would be dramatically improved. Higher speed limits in areas with really low speed limits like West Shore Expwy (50mph limit) would benefit with a more abiding speed limit, not the NJ Turnpike.

I agree with you on 440 in S.I. The speed limit should be 60 mph. But the NJTPK is built for speed because its always straight it should be 75 mph.

The NJ Turnpike speed limits are JOKES. I honestly dont understand why they even bother posting 55mph speed limit signs in random areas. I bet if I were to stand out there I wouldnt even catch an 18 wheeler going that slow.

The speed limit should be 75MPH. Everyone does at least 70 down the entire turnpike anyway, left lane averages about 80. Only problem I could see is that this would mean that people would then increase the gap to be crusing at over 90 with the current blatant disregard to the posted speed limit. But I would still prefer a strict 75MPH speed limit, so I can actually cruse down without having to worry about being singled out by a cop out of the thousands of cars doing well over 70 on the turnpike.

Looks to me like everyone is doing 80 to 90mph anyway when the speed limit is 65, so up it to 75 and every one will be doing close to 100mph, gonna make for some very spectacular accidents. I would like to see the return of the 55mph speed limit

Why should we go back to 55? add the lookaway at 65 and you get 80.
What scares me is lack of common sense. Just because it says 65 and its raining & foggy dosent mean it is safe to drive at 65 in those conditions.
I like the speed limit signs on the GSParkway in NJ. It says conditions permitting after the speed, which gives the State Police the right to stop you even if you are driving at 65 in unsafe road conditions

In a perfect world everyone would be proficient courteous drivers in well maintained equipment going 100mph would be no problem but that is not what we have out there. Underestimating the ignorance and stupidity of your fellow drivers can cost you your life at eccesively high speeds. At 90mph do you want to trust what the cell phone distacted driver of an SUV full of unbuckled kids is gonna do?

No, I try to keep my eyes on the cars around me as well as in front and back of me. But we were doing a mere 65 on the Sprain sunday when a moron cut us off.

If we had roads built to handle the speeds and in rural areas I would support 75 mph. Unfortunately the eastern seaboard where I-95 runs is densely populated and the roads are not always kept in the best shape partly due to the rough winters. Past Richmond, VA the speeds increase and without a problem that I have seen.

One major problem are these little old men and women and similar types who can barely see over the steering wheel of their big Cadillacs and stay left while driving 45 mph in a 70 mph zone. They are the types that can pose significant hazards as we try and dodge them. KEEP RIGHT! Its the American way!

Hey, I'm one of those little old men and ladies, and I can assure you I can see over the stearing wheel and I do not drive at 45. More like 80.
