1st road trip to Disney with 3 boys

Just how do you keep the little rug rats occupied while on the road?

Thanks so much for the tips.

I checked with a friend that lives in DC. He said as long as we're there by 7, life should be good. He definitely suggested staying on 95, and avoiding the beltway west around the city (495). He says that turns into a parking lot!!!

I thought Savannah was closer to Northern Georgia than Southern, but I will look into it. I also spoke with a girlfriend that lives off of Exit 3 in Georgia and she said there are some nice places to stay/eat. I haven't decided yet if I'm stopping in Georgia or Jacksonville. We will be on the road by 7 am, so if it really is only 2.5 hours (which I have no reason to doubt), we should be there by 9 - 9:30. Woot! A whole day in the MK!!! YEAH! We will probably make it an early night though!

Thanks again for the information!!! I can't wait! 10 days and counting! LOL!

I would make reservations, but before you do that find out the cancelation policy. The bigger chains like Holiday Inn, Marroit, Best Western can almost always cancel and rebook you further down. And yes its closer to northen ga but we made it to Ft Lauderdale in 8 hrs from there. Also, with three boys you might want to look into a suite

I’m sure I’m in the minority with this, but I never make reservations when doing trips on 95. The one time I did, we were making great time and had to stop because of the reservation. Had we not stopped, we could have done another 2 or 3 hours of driving. Since then, we haven’t made reservations. We only had trouble finding a room one time and that was at 11 PM. If you are going to be stopping somewhere around dinner time, you should be ok as long as you stop in an area with lots of hotel/motel choices.

Why did you have to stop? Couldn't you cancel & rebook further down?
Also, I guess it depends on when you are going. If they are traveling with three boys and want a indoor pool they are hard to find.

They had a crappy cancellation policy. If I could have, I would. To make matters worse, it was in a bad neighborhood. They had a guard in the lot at night. Now, if it isn't a resort, I like to get a look before I decide to book.

That's why I stick to the major chains. I used Marroit last year, and was very pleased with them. Only book in newer hotels with inside corridors.
We stayed at Emporia Va, the first night could have gone further but hubby wanted indoor pool.

We went down in late April 2005 and left upstate NY (about an hour from NYC) at about 4:00 am and got through the Delaware, Baltimore, DC mess without a problem. We stopped in a Motel 6 in Richmond Hill, GA (just south of Savannah) and I got 2 adjoining rooms. My 15 year old son and 14 year old nephew (both football linemen) needed a full size bed each and so did my wife and I with our dog. At about $30 per room it was certainly worth it for a place to crash for the night.

Getting on to Disney was about another 5-6 hours from there depending on traffic. We slept in and got on the road at about 7:00 am and got there about 1:00.
