Stuart FL to NY

Postby stuartfl » Wed Jun 27, 2012 3:49 pm

Whats a reasonable stop...

We need to stay overnite in a motel... looking at I-95 on a map it looks like we can clear Georgia and stop in South Carolina.

What do the more experienced travlers say?

We have two kids with us, 13 and 8.

Is it reasonable to drive from SC to NY in one day?

Assistance and suggestions appreciated.

Since you didn't say what part of New York, I'll assume New York City...

It's about 20 hours (1186 miles) from Stuart to NYC. Half way will put you near the North Carolina/South Carolina border. Approximately halfway is Dillon, South Carolina. I-95, exit 193 is a recommended overnight stopover in Dillon. Check this page out for Dillon info:

Florence, South Carolina ( http://i95exitguide.com/stopovers/sc164.php ) or Lumberton, North Carolina ( http://i95exitguide.com/stopovers/nc20.php ) are good alternate stopovers.

Our Overnight Stopovers section ( http://i95exitguide.com/stopovers/index.php ) can help you plan your trip. A two day trip from Stuart to NYC is quite reasonable.

Yes, assuming you're talking about NYC, it is very possible. I live a few miles north of NYC in northern NJ. We have driven many times to Hilton Head Island in one day and same thing on the return trip.

I have children around the same ages as yours. My advice it to not just go haflway the first day but at least 2/3 or 3/4 of the way or as long as the family and weather/traffic conditions will allow. I always prefer to have as little drive time on the second day as possible. I would suggest making it to VA on the first day.

You also need to consider your timing of when you'll be going through the DC and Baltimore area, you are going to want to avoid any morning and afternoon rush hours. Same thing for when you start getting close to the NYC area, nothing worse than being just a few miles away from your final destination only to be sitting in bumper to bumper commuter traffic.
