Re: Accomodations in Dillon SC
i dont recall staying in dillon, but since you mentioned south carolina, i feel compelled to just give a tip to avoid the best western in walterboro right off i-95. i have stayed at a number of places, in a number of states, on i-95, and really never had a hiccup with any of them (heck i was just using them as a place to sleep, how can one complain) but i couldn't with a clear conscience keep quiet about this place, this place was just lousy. have a great (and safe) trip.

Thanks for the tip and am checking on the reviews
from tripadvisor but a lot of them are over a year old
and things change quickly. Just looking for a reasonable
rate and clean surroundings. Looking forward to Florida as its been
nothing but cold and snow up here

The Ramada and Hampton Inns are the better motels at this exit (Exit 193).

Re: Accomadations in Dillon SC
The thing about Dillon is that it's pretty much of a tourist stop and consequently the hotels are going to be more expensive, so unless you're planning on spending a day at South of the Border--and that's a whole other argument--I don't really recommend it.
Having said that, my attitude about lodging is that it's little more than a crash pad for the night. I want a clean room, a comfortable critter-free bed, clear pictures on the TV and somewhere nearby to get food. So I'm not motivated to spend a pile of money on my hotel room.
As you get into the Carolinas/Georgia/Florida, hit the rest areas and look for the hotel discount booklets that are available. You can find them in restaurants and gas stations as well. You can also get an advance peek at the booklets by going to roomsaver.com to get a feel for what's available.
Finally, don't rely strictly on TripAdvisor; try a few review sites and see if they're in general agreement. And take careful note of the language in the reviews; if there is a lot of superlative language (either positive or negative), try to take that into account. Good luck and travel safely!
