Baltimore to Richmond Traffic
I am heading to Richmond from the Jersey shore. Am leaving Friday morning, just wondering what time to leave to miss the morning and afternoon commuters. Thanks, Burt.

Hit the Delaware Memorial Bridge after 8:30 am.
Take I-95 south to 896/301 south to Middletown. Follow 301 south to where it joins Route 50 west and Kent Island. Go over the bay bridge towards Annapolis. Stay on 50 west and it connects with the I-95 beltway just north of Alexandria, VA.
This misses the Baltimore tunnel and the tolls and doesn't take that much longer.
The Bay Bridge is free going west.

This may (or may not) be late. The post above mine is very true. However, for those who want to completely avoid I-95 DC traffic, take Route 896/U.S. 301 south all the way to U.S. 50 west via the Bay Bridge near Annapolis, MD. Once on Route 50 west, get off at Exit 13A to proceed onto U.S. 301 south. Once again, this alternate route is best ONLY for those who want to completely avoid both I-95's DC Beltway traffic and the sometimes-cumbersome I-95 HOV corridor between Springfield and the merge point near Triangle, VA.
