Any Good Theme Parks Along I-95?

Postby Jeremy » Sun Mar 23, 2008 11:03 pm

My family and another family are planning on driving from New Brunswick, Canada to Florida this coming December.

We were wondering if there are any good theme parks, trading posts, outlet shopping, zoos, kiddie things, etc. along the way?

For example, I remember a place called Pedro's somewhere in the Carolina's last time we drove...but the last time we drove we were in a huge rush so we didn't stop at any of these places.
Or another example is when we drive down the i93 through New Hampshire, the place is loaded with tourist traps.

This time we're driving with children so we are looking for things to break up the trip a bit.

Any suggestions? Even the most minor playground (that is quick and easy and accessible) would be a welcome excuse to pull over.
Thanks.

you are thinking of the famous south of the border complex on the NC/SC border. it has something for everyone but is a tourist trap. there are reportedly some 180 billboard ads for them.

further south at exit 98 in santee, SC there is a large outlet complex on the east side of the hiway

South of Fredericksburg, Virginia is I believe Kings Dominion? It may be Kings Island? One of them is in Virginia and the other is in Ohio (went to both as a kid in the 70's). Must be Kings Dominion since Old Dominion University is in Virginia. (great logic huh?)

South of the border(south of the North Carolina border) is a great tourist trap. Can't pass up or down 95 without stopping for fireworks and a stretch of the legs.

You might want to check out a feature we recently added...

http://www.i95exitguide.com/themeparks/

It not only lists many of the larger (eg. Six Flags) theme parks but also some great smaller independent parks like New Hampshire's Canobie Lake. All the parks we list are a relatively short drive from I-95. You'll find park details, ride lists, photos and maps of how to get there.

Check it out and let us know what you think.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I've checked them out.

These all look good but I was more interested in smaller tourist traps as we would be looking for things to do for maybe an hour and then back on the road....these look to be an entire day stop.

And not just theme parks...even shopping, go-carts, mini-golf, batting cages, trading posts, etc.

Thanks.

Kittery Trading Post - Kittery, Maine, also some of those outlet centers near there. But the KTP is worth a stop.

On our I95 journey, we stumbled upon Funland at Central Park in Fredricksburg. My little guys are 1 and 4...this was just the thing they needed after several hours in the car. Lots of noisy, flashy arcade games, a few little rides, a gokart track, batting cages and mini golf. There are a million restaurants in the Central Park shopping district and it's an easy 5 minutes off of 95. HTH.
