The maine Turnpike Authority published the following update to their Open Road Tolling Plaza construction project:

UPDATE: The Exit 1 northbound off-ramp on I295 in South Portland has reopened.

Below is the original release sent out prior to the closure.

PORTLAND, Maine- On Monday, June 5, the contractor working for Maine Turnpike Authority, Reed & Reed, will temporarily close Exit 1 northbound off-ramp on I-295 in South Portland as part of the work for the new Open Road Toll Plaza off Turnpike Exit 44. The closure is scheduled to start in the morning, but is weather dependent. Drivers will be redirected via portable message signs and fixed signs on the Turnpike to Exit 45 in South Portland. Turnpike Exit 45 provides easy access to all points that can be reach using Exit 1. The ramp will reopen on June 30th, before the July 4th holiday weekend.

The Exit 44 Open Road Toll Plaza project consists of replacing the old plaza and constructing two highway speed open road tolling lanes in each direction, and well as cash lanes to the right. It also includes the construction of a tunnel for employee access and utilities, the construction of a utility building, and the reconfiguration of the Exit 1 northbound ramp. Closing Exit 1 during the re-alignment of that ramp will be safer for the travelling public and construction workers, and will reduce construction time.
