On a recent trip to Florida we stumbled on a great little restaurant just off I-95, exit 311 in St. Augustine. It’s called “Sam’s Southern Restaurant” and it’s definitely worth a visit.
It’s a no-frills spot that serves up generous portions of classic dishes like fried chicken, catfish, mac and cheese, and red beans and rice that taste like they came straight from grandma’s kitchen. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming, with that laid-back vibe you’d expect from a true Southern eatery.
Everything here tastes homemade, and the portions are seriously huge – you’ll likely have leftovers. The fried chicken is crispy and flavorful, and the sides are all solid choices. Service is typically friendly and efficient, though it can get busy during peak meal times since locals know this is the real deal.
Don’t expect anything fancy – this is straightforward, honest Southern cooking at reasonable prices. It’s the kind of place where you go when you want to fill up on satisfying comfort food without breaking the bank. I recommend it!
