Savannah Area Insider TipsThe Inside Scoop From Seasoned I-95 Travelers
Traffic & Driving: Avoid the Talmadge Bridge during rush hour (7-9am, 4-6pm) - it's the main artery and gets congested. The I-16 junction can be messy - where I-95 meets I-16, stay alert for merging traffic. Speed traps are common on I-95 in this stretch, especially near exits. Stick to the limit.
Food Stops Worth the Exit: Exit 94 (Pooler) has tons of chain options, but locals hit Blowin' Smoke BBQ. Exit 99 has quick access to Sandfly BBQ (locals' favorite). If you have 30+ minutes, exit into Historic District for Mrs. Wilkes (lunch only, family-style Southern) or Zunzi's (incredible sandwiches).
Gas & Facilities: Buc-ee's is open in Pooler (Exit 94) - It's massive, with clean bathrooms, and good food. Avoid gas stations immediately off I-95 exits; drive a mile inland for better prices.
Watch Out For: This area is notorious for sudden weather changes (afternoon thunderstorms in summer). Watch out for Palmetto bugs (giant roaches) at rest stops - they fly.
