Jacksonville Area Insider TipsThe Inside Scoop From Seasoned I-95 Travelers
Traffic & Driving: Avoid the Fuller Warren Bridge (I-95 over the St. Johns River) during rush hours (7-9am, 4-6:30pm) - it's a major bottleneck. The express lanes through downtown can save time but watch for confusing lane merges. Speed traps are common on I-95 through Nassau County (just north of Jacksonville). Watch for sudden slowdowns - Jacksonville drivers brake unpredictably.
Rest Stop Tip: The Florida Welcome Center at the Florida/Georgia border (mile marker 380) is much nicer than most I-95 stops if you're heading southbound.
Food and Stops: Exit 344 (Pecan Park Rd) has a Buc-ee's massive, clean bathrooms, good food. Exit 318 (Baymeadows): Tons of options, and easy access here. Avoid exits near downtown during rush hour - you'll get stuck. Fill up your tank before you hit downtown if you're running low - exits are limited through the city center. Exit 329 (Southside) or Exit 344 usually have competitive prices.
Weather Alert: Sudden afternoon thunderstorms are common in the summer - but don't forget... bridges gets slick and visibility drops fast during wet weather.
