Where can you dine in South Carolina on Christmas? In Santee, it’s either the Waffle House or Peking Chinese Restaurant. My husband warned that he didn’t want to hear grumbles from me about salty, over cooked food. We walked in and were delighted to find a large Chinese group who had just ordered. I ordered in the vein of “I’ll have what they’re having.” Don’t let the humble and bleak setting fool you. Duck sauce is stored in what appears to be old ketchup bottles, and condiments are displayed in rudimentary plastic bag holders.
The food was hot, fresh and tasty. Service was good as our young waiter obliged our requests to copy food orders. Not bad for Christmas on I-95 on the road.
