Multiple Work Zones on I-95 in Fredericksburg, Expect Delays

The Virginia Department of Transportation reports that motorists should anticipate multiple work zones midday and overnight on Interstate 95 northbound and southbound this week in the Fredericksburg area.

The following lane closures are planned, weather permitting:

Interstate 95 Southbound

  • Aquia Creek Bridge (mile marker 145) Stafford County
    Monday ˗˗ Friday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 10 a.m.
    A single lane will close at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. at the Aquia Creek bridge for a bridge rehabilitation project. Double lane closures end at 4:30 a.m. A single lane will remain closed until 10 a.m. the following morning except on Friday when all lanes will reopen at 6 a.m. The Aquia Creek bridge is located at mile marker 145, just north of Exit 143/Route 610.
  • Exit 130B (Route 3)
    Monday ˗˗ Thursday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 1 p.m. and 9 p.m. Thursday ˗˗ 6 a.m. Friday
    The Exit 130 off-ramp will be reduced to a single lane from I-95 southbound to westbound Route 3 as part of the I-95 interchange safety improvement project. All lanes will reopen at 1 p.m. the following day except on Friday, when all lanes will reopen at 6 a.m. Expect brief delays at the interchange.
  • Exit 126 (Route 1/Massaponax) Spotsylvania County
    Tuesday ˗˗ Thursday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 7 a.m.
    A single lane on I-95 southbound will be closed near Exit 126/Massaponax will close at 9 p.m. to allow crews to make repairs to the bridge over Route 1 followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. Double lane closures will end at 4:30 a.m. A single lane will remain closed until 7 a.m. Expect overnight delays near the interchange.
  • Ni River Bridge (mile marker 121) Spotsylvania County
    Monday ˗˗ Thursday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 10 a.m.
    A single lane will close at 9 p.m. at the Ni River bridge followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. Double lane closures end at 4:30 a.m. A single lane will remain closed until 10 a.m. except on Friday, when all lanes will open at 6 a.m. Crews are working to continue a bridge improvement project. The Ni River bridge is located at mile marker 121, just south of Exit 126/Massaponax.

Interstate 95 Northbound

  • Potomac Creek Bridge (mile marker 137) Stafford County
    Tuesday, 9:30 a.m. ˗˗ 3:30 p.m.
    A single, left lane will be closed on I-95 northbound at the Potomac Creek bridge for a bridge rehabilitation project. The bridge is located at mile marker 137, just before Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway).
  • Exit 130 (Route 3/Fredericksburg)
    Tuesday ˗˗ Thursday, 9:30 a.m. ˗˗ 3:30 p.m.
    The on-ramp carrying traffic from westbound Route 3 to I-95 northbound will be narrowed to allow crews to work safely along the shoulder of the ramp. Drivers should be alert to construction crews and equipment working along the shoulder of the ramp.
  • Ni River Bridge (mile marker 121) Spotsylvania County
    Monday ˗˗ Thursday, 9:30 a.m. ˗˗ 3:30 p.m.
    Daytime shoulder closures
    Monday ˗˗ Thursday , 9 p.m. ˗˗ 4:30 a.m.
    A single lane will close at 9 p.m. at the Ni River bridge followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. All lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m. the following morning.
  • Exit 118 (Route 606/Mudd Tavern Road) Spotsylvania County
    Monday ˗˗ Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. ˗˗ 3:30 p.m.
    A single, left lane on I-95 northbound near Exit 118 will be closed near the interchange for construction activities.
  • Exit 118 (Route 606/Mudd Tavern Road) Spotsylvania County
    Monday ˗˗ Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. ˗˗ 2:30 p.m.
    A single, left lane on I-95 southbound near Exit 118 will be closed near the interchange for construction activities
  • Exit 118 (Route 606/Mudd Tavern Road) Off-Ramp Spotsylvania County
    Monday ˗˗ Friday, 8:30 a.m. ˗˗ 3:30 p.m.
    The Exit 118 off-ramp which carries traffic from I-95 southbound to Mudd Tavern Road will be reduced to a single lane for storm sewer installation. Drivers should be alert to construction crews and equipment working in the right lane and right shoulder of the ramp. Expect brief delays at the interchange. The work is related to the I-95 overpass replacement project and widening of Mudd Tavern Road.

Overhead message boards will warn travelers to stay alert for the work zones ahead and possible delays.
