Lane, Ramp Closures, Detours on I-95 in Rhode Island This Week

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation reports the following lane clousres, ramp closures, detours and other highway restrictions on I-95 this week.

Weekend Closures

  • Cranston/Warwick: I-95 North and South, from Exit 16 (Rte. 10) to Exit 14 (Rte. 37), alternating two left lane and two right lane and shoulder closures for bridge painting, Friday and Saturday nights, October 14 and 15, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day. Detour possible.

Temporary Exit and Ramp Closures

  • Providence: I-95 South at Exit 22 (Downtown Providence/Rtes. 6 & 10), exit closed for construction, Sunday-Thursday nights from midnight to 6 a.m. the following day. Follow signed detour.
  • Providence: Access from the Exit 21 (Atwells Ave.) ramp to I-95 South will be closed, Sunday-Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day. Follow signed detour.

Overnight Closures

  • Cranston: I-95 North and South under Rte. 10, alternating lane closures for a bridge inspection, Sunday and Monday nights from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. the following day.
    • Sunday night: I-95 North
    • Monday night: I-95 South
  • Cranston: I-95 South Service Roads under Rte. 10, alternating lane and shoulder closures for a bridge inspection, Tuesday night from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. the following day.
  • Cranston/Warwick: I-95 North and South, from Exit 16 (Rte. 10) to Exit 14 (Rte. 37), alternating two left lane and two right lane and shoulder closures for bridge work and painting, Sunday-Thursday nights from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day. Detours possible.
  • Cranston/Warwick: I-95 North and South, from Exit 13 (Airport Connector) to Exit 16 (Rte. 10), alternating two left lane and two right lane and shoulder closures for bridge work and painting, Sunday-Thursday nights from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day.
  • Providence: I-95 South, from Exit 23 (Rte. 146/State Offices) to Exit 21 (Atwells Ave.), alternating lane closures for construction, Wednesday and Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day.
  • West Greenwich to Hopkinton: I-95 North and South, from Exit 6 (Rte. 3) to the Connecticut state line, expect alternating lane closures in a moving operation for striping, Sunday-Thursday nights from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following day.

Weekday Closures

  • Hopkinton: I-95 South, from Exit 2 (Hopkinton) to Exit 1 (Rte. 3), right shoulder closed in a moving operation for drainage work, Monday from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Overnight Lane Closures on I-95 in Virginia, Delays Expected

The Virginia Department of Transportation reports That overnight lane closures on Interstate 95 northbound and southbound at Fredericksburg will continue this week as construction crews place beams for a new four-lane overpass at Fall Hill Avenue.

I-95 travelers are advised to use Route 1 to avoid delays on these evenings. Message boards on I-95 will provide advance notice of lane closures and detour routes.

The Fall Hill Avenue overpass is located at mile marker 131, just south of the Rappahannock River bridges and Safety Rest Area. It is located between I-95 Exit 130/Route 3 at Fredericksburg and Exit 133/Route 17 in Stafford County.

Lanes will be closed on the following schedule, weather permitting:

Tuesday, August 23

I-95 northbound:
Single lane closure at 9 p.m.
Double lane closure at 9:30 p.m.
Between midnight and 3 a.m. all traffic will be stopped several times for approximately 20 minutes each while crews lift concrete beams over the interstate.
All lanes re-open to traffic by 4:30 a.m.

Wednesday, Aug. 24 and Thursday, Aug. 25

I-95 southbound:
Single lane closure at 9:30 p.m.
Double lane closure at 10 p.m.
All lanes re-open to traffic by 5 a.m.
Sunday, Aug. 28

I-95 northbound:
Single lane closure at 10 p.m.
Double lane closure at 10:30 p.m.
All lanes re-open to traffic by 4:30 a.m.

Monday, Aug. 29

I-95 northbound:
Single lane closure at 9 p.m.
Double lane closure at 9:30 p.m.
All lanes re-open to traffic by 4:30 a.m.
Virginia State Police are assisting with traffic control in the work zone.

Fall Hill Avenue Widening and I-95 Overpass Replacement

Construction is underway on a $44.4 million project to widen Fall Hill Avenue in Fredericksburg to four lanes between Gordon W. Shelton Boulevard and the Rappahannock Canal.

A new four-lane overpass is under construction over I-95 northbound and southbound. Traffic began traveling on the first half of the newly constructed overpass in February, while work progresses on the second half of the bridge. Estimated project completion is January 2017.
