The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) testing will occur this week on Interstate 95 in Northeast Philadelphia.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restriction:

Wednesday, April 19, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, periodic right lane closures will be in place on I-95 in both directions on between the Bridge Street and Cottman Avenue interchanges.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time for travel through the work area. The schedule is weather dependent.

The ITS testing is one of the final remaining tasks under PennDOT’s $81 million I-95 Section BS1 project to reconstruct Interstate 95 at the Bridge Street Interchange in Northeast Philadelphia.

Section BS1 reconstructed the northbound and southbound lanes of I-95 from Carver Street to Levick Street. Two bridges carrying the interstate over Comly Street and Van Kirk Street also were replaced.

In addition to ITS work, construction of a new median barrier on I-95, the last part of mainline construction, is nearing completion.
