During the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation is reminding the public to be alert while traveling, aware of holiday work restrictions and mindful of roadway conditions.

“Drivers traveling throughout this holiday weekend are reminded to focus on getting to their destinations safely,” said Transportation Secretary and CEO Stephanie Pollack. “This includes eliminating cell phone usage as well as other distractions while driving.”

“Due to the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, people should make smart decisions before traveling,” said Highway Administrator Jonathan Gulliver. “The public can plan ahead by using traffic resources such as www.mass511.com, recognizing service impacts and choosing the best route, mode and time to travel.”

The HOV lane will be deployed on the morning of Friday, January 17th, for regular operating times and in the afternoon the HOV will open two hours early, at 1:00 p.m. The HOV lane will not open on Monday, January 20th. The HOV will resume normal deployment hours on Tuesday, January 21.

On Monday, January 20th, the Sumner Tunnel Swing Lane will not be deployed. The Swing Lane will return to its regular deployment schedule on Tuesday, January 21st, 2020, operating from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
