The Virginia Department of Transportation reports that motorists should anticipate overnight delays and double lane closures on Interstate 95 northbound and southbound for multiple work zones in the Fredericksburg area beginning tonight, October 23 through early Friday, October 27.

Maintenance operations continue on I-95. Operations are underway near Exit 110/Ladysmith in Caroline County and will continue to proceed north. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) reminds drivers to give crews plenty of room to work in the shoulder. Mowing will take place outside of the travel lanes, but drivers should consider moving over or reducing speed when approaching mowing crews.

The following lane closures are planned, weather permitting:

  • Exit 118 (Route 606/Mudd Tavern Road) Spotsylvania County
    • Tuesday ˗˗ Thursday, 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. A single lane will close near the Exit 118 interchange for construction activities related to the I-95 overpass replacement project and widening of Mudd Tavern Road.

    • Monday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 4:30 a.m. A single lane will close at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. at the Potomac Creek bridge. All lanes will reopen at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday.
  • Exit 143 (Route 610/Garrisonville Road) Stafford County
    • Thursday, 10 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Expect double lane closures near Exit 143 to allow crews to uncover new signage for the Express Lanes Southern Terminus extension.
  • Aquia Creek Bridge (mile marker 145) Stafford County
    • Wednesday ˗˗ Thursday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 3:30 p.m. Expect single, right lane closed on I-95 northbound. The I-95 bridge over Aquia Creek is located just after Exit 143 (Route 610/Garrisonville) as crews begin a rehabilitation project.

Interstate 95 Southbound

  • Exit 140 (Route 630/Courthouse Road) Stafford County
    • Thursday, 9 p.m. – 10 a.m. A single, right lane will be closed near Exit 140 to allow crews to install temporary concrete barrier and crash cushions near the interchange as part of the project to build a diverging diamond.
  • Potomac Creek Bridge (mile marker 137) Stafford County
    • Tuesday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 10 a.m. A single lane will close at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. at the Potomac Creek bridge for a bridge rehabilitation project.
