In an effort to help try to ease Memorial Day weekend traffic, the Delaware Department of Transportation will be suspending planned construction-related lane closures from Thursday until May 31.

Ongoing sustained lane shifts and/or lane closures may still be in effect in certain areas. DelDOT reminds travelers to exercise caution as heavy holiday traffic is expected. Emergency lane closures may occur at any time on interstate and state routes.

The suspension of the planned construction-related lane closures will take place from 12:01 a.m. on Thursday and will last until 12:01 a.m. on May 31.

Rest Stops: Motorists looking for a break can visit the Delaware Welcome Center Travel Plaza on I-95 near Newark or the Smyrna Rest Area on Del. 1, Exit 119 or U.S. 13 near Smyrna.

E-ZPass: The E-ZPass express lanes are open at I-95 Newark Toll Plaza; Biddle’s Toll Plaza on Del. 1 and Dover Plaza on Del. 1, as well as most of the other cash toll booth lanes at the plazas.

Additional lanes will be opened as needed. Motorists are reminded to slow down when approaching the toll plazas to ensure the safety of toll collectors.
