Full Traffic Stop on Virginia’s I-95, Expect Overnight Delays

Virginia Highway Safety Patrol | I-95 Exit Guide

The Virginia Department of Transportation reports that all Interstate 95 southbound traffic will be stopped up to 30 minutes starting at midnight, March 12, at Exit 133 (Route 17) in Stafford County to allow crews to move a crane to build a new I-95 overpass.

The I-95 Southbound Rappahannock River Crossing project is currently building the future I-95 northbound bridge over Route 17.

Weather permitting, the following lane closures have been scheduled:

Wednesday, March 11 – Thursday, March 12

  • Interstate 95 Southbound
    • 9:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. – Single lane closure
    • 10:00 p.m. – Midnight – Double lane closure
    • Midnight – 12:30 a.m. – Full traffic stop up to 30 minutes
    • 12:30 a.m. – 6:00 a.m. – Double lane closure
    • 6:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. – Single lane closure

Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control.

Message boards are posted along I-95 and Route 17 to alert motorists to delays ahead.
