Daytona International Speedway | I-95 Exit Guide

If you are heading to the Daytona 500 this weekend (Sunday, February 15, 2026), you should watch your speed on I-95… especially in Brevard County.

Sheriff Wayne Ivey of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) have begun a major traffic enforcement operation targeting Interstate 95, which is the primary route for fans traveling north or south to the Daytona International Speedway. This initiative addresses the corridor’s designation as one of the nation’s deadliest interstate stretches, ensuring enhanced road safety amid elevated traffic volumes.

    Campaign Details

    • Initiative: “This is The Only Warning You’re Getting,” launched Jan 5, 2026 by Sheriff Wayne Ivey; strict citation enforcement (no more warnings)
    • Targeted Area: 72-mile I-95 stretch (Mims to Micco), one of deadliest US interstates (451 deaths 2019-2023).
    • Enforcement Tactics: Speeding, distracted driving, following too closely, Move Over law (112+ citations); partners: BCSO & FHP.
    • Current Impact: 931+ tickets (701 BCSO, 230 FHP; 500+ speeding, 3 super speeders); accidents declining.

    Florida’s “Super Speeder” Law

I-95 motorists are advised that House Bill 351, commonly known as the “Super Speeder” law, took effect on July 1, 2025. This landmark legislation reclassifies dangerous excessive speeding—defined as exceeding the posted speed limit by 50 mph or more, or operating a vehicle at 100 mph or greater—from a civil traffic infraction to a criminal misdemeanor offense.

    • Threshold: Driving 50 mph or more over the speed limit, or going faster than 100 mph.
    • Penalties: First-time offenders get charged with a second-degree misdemeanor, facing up to 30-60 days in jail and a $500 fine. Repeat offenses bring longer jail time and license suspension for up to one year.
