The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) reports that bridge repair will take place at night next week on I-95 in South Philadelphia and Delaware County under a $37.4 million project to perform high-priority repairs on interstate bridges, to maintain the functionality, safety, and mobility of the structures along critical corridors.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions:

  • Monday, July 28, through Friday, August 1, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a lane closure will be in place on northbound I-95 between Packer Avenue and Christian Street in Philadelphia.
  • Tuesday, July 29, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a lane closure will be in place on southbound I-95 between Christian Street and Packer Avenue in Philadelphia.
  • Wednesday, July 30, and Thursday, July 31, a single lane closure will be in place from 9:00 PM to 12:00 AM, followed by a double lane closure from 12:00 AM to 5:00 AM on southbound I-95 between U.S. 13 (Chester Pike) and Stewart Avenue in Ridley Township, Delaware County.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

In addition to bridge repairs, 11 overhead steel sign structures will be cleaned and repainted. Existing roadway lighting will also be upgraded to LED luminaires.
