According to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), on Thursday night, September 4, weather permitting, the southbound-running 95 Express Lanes will be closed between the exit for Dale Boulevard (Route 784 to Dale City/Rippon Landing/rest area) and the exit for Route 234/Dumfries/Manassas) for Neabsco Creek bridge work.
The left lane of the southbound-running I-95 Express Lanes just before the exit for Dale Boulevard will be closed from 9:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Thursday, September 4.
The southbound-running I-95 Express Lanes will be fully closed from 10:00 p.m. Thursday, September 4, to 1:00 a.m. Friday, September 5. During that time, the following ramps will also be closed:
- Opitz Boulevard (Route 2000) ramp to the southbound I-95 Express Lanes
- Southbound I-95 general purpose lanes ramp to the southbound I-95 Express Lanes around mile marker 156.5 just past the Dale Boulevard interchange
Southbound I-95 Express Lanes traffic will be diverted to the southbound I-95 general purpose lanes via the flyover ramp that provides access to the Dale Boulevard interchange. Drivers will be able to re-enter the I-95 Express Lanes via the southbound I-95 general purpose lanes flyover ramp just past the Telegraph Road (Route 637) overpass in Stafford County; this flyover ramp is located about a mile and a half beyond the Russell Road (Exit 148 to Marine Corps Base Quantico) interchange.
The I-95 Express Lanes will then be closed from 1:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. Friday, September 5, for the regularly scheduled reversal from southbound to northbound operations; the Neabsco Creek work zone will be cleared from the roadway by the time the I-95 Express Lanes begin running northbound at 3:00 a.m. Friday, September 5.
The geotechnical work is part of preparations for the I-95 southbound over Neabsco Creek bridge project. Construction is scheduled to begin in mid-2027.
Drivers are reminded to use caution when traveling in active work zones. Be alert to new traffic patterns and limit distractions.
