The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced nighttime construction on the northbound lanes of the I-95 Girard Point Bridge and nearby roadways in Southwest Philadelphia. This work is part of a $261.5 million project to repair and improve the bridge.

Construction will take place from April 13 through April 17 during overnight hours. Lane closures will occur between Enterprise Avenue and Broad Street (Route 611). At different times, one or two lanes will be closed as crews repair the road surface and set up traffic patterns for upcoming work.

Drivers should expect delays and allow extra travel time when passing through the area.

PennDOT plans to keep three lanes open in each direction on I-95 throughout the project. Efforts will be made to reduce traffic impacts during major events such as the FIFA World Cup and the MLB All-Star Game. In mid-2026, longer-term traffic patterns will be introduced, with additional lane closures during off-peak hours and weekends.

The project includes repairs to the main Girard Point Bridge and several nearby structures. Work will involve improving the road surface, replacing barriers, fixing parts of the bridge structure, and upgrading lighting and drainage systems. Additional work will protect the bridge’s support in the Schuylkill River and improve traffic management systems.

The entire project is expected to be completed in early 2031.
