The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will implement slow rolls on southbound I-95 in Chesterfield County on a nightly basis from February 9 to 12 between 1:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. for the raising and lowering of bridge girders over West Hundred Road. Motorists should be aware that the slow-roll closures (rolling roadblocks) will involve a Virginia State Police presence.
The slow rolls will take place between mile marker 63 near Route 613 (Willis Road) and mile marker 60 near Route 10 (West Hundred Road). A slow roll is a traffic management operation where a traffic gap is created by reducing approaching traffic speeds. This gap allows work to safely take place free of traffic.
Drivers should expect delays in 15-minute intervals with 45 minutes in between to allow normal traffic flow. Traffic in all lanes will be slowed to a speed of 5 to 10 mph.
Signs will be posted in advance of the work locations notifying traffic of ongoing slow roll operations.
