The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) reports that one of the ramps at the large junction of I-95 and U.S. 64 in Nash County is scheduled to temporarily close starting Monday.
A state highway contractor plans to close the I-95 North ramp to U.S. 64 East and U.S. 64 West (exit 138) at 8:00 p.m. Monday, June 9. This ramp is expected to reopen by the end of June.
While the ramp is closed, the contractor will be placing the collector-distributor lane in its final pattern to serve the new Sunset Avenue interchange on I-95. Once the ramp from I-95 North to U.S. 64 is reopened, motorists on I-95 will continue to use Exit 138 to access U.S. 64, but this exit will be one mile farther south than its current location.
The detour for this month’s closure will send I-95 North drivers onto Exit 141, where they can exit and turn around go south on I-95 to reach either direction of U.S. 64 at Exit 138. Drivers should be mindful of the longer commute and be alert near this work zone.
The Sunset Avenue interchange at I-95 is expected to be completed and fully opened by the end of this year.
