The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) and federal transportation officials have initiated construction on a major infrastructure project to replace the I-95 bridges over Lake Marion. Originally built in the 1960s, these structures will be replaced with modern bridges designed to enhance safety, improve traffic flow, and ensure long-term reliability along this critical corridor.
I-95 serves as a vital transportation route along the East Coast, supporting high volumes of daily traffic, including significant commercial freight movement. Upgrading these bridges will strengthen the efficiency of regional and interstate travel while supporting economic activity across multiple states.
The project is supported by a $175 million federal grant, reflecting strong coordination between state and federal agencies. This investment underscores a shared commitment to improving transportation infrastructure, increasing safety standards, and supporting sustained economic growth.
