This major I-95 construction project in South Carolina is being done in conjunction with the Georgia Department of Transportation. The purpose of the project is to accommodate for growth and to improve the interchanges and bridges to fit modern standards. This will include the addition of a new bridge over the Savannah River.

Work is now underway to replace the I-95 Savannah River bridges. Crews are currently installing trestles to allow heavy cranes to maneuver over the river banks.

The goal of the project is to reduce I-95 traffic delays and congestion and keep people and goods moving smoothly and safely through the I-95 corridor.

This bridge project is part of SCDOT’s I-95 Widening and Improvements Project to upgrade approximately 10 miles of I-95 in South Carolina from the Savannah River to the US 278 interchange in Jasper County.

The project is set to be complete by 2030. More information on the project can be found on the project website.
