Double Lane Closures, Delays for I-95 Construction in Fredericksburg

The Virginia Department of Transportation reports that drivers should anticipate double lane closures overnight which may cause delays on Interstate 95 northbound and southbound in the Fredericksburg area.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is encouraging overnight travelers to use Route 1 or Route 301 to avoid delays.

Weather permitting, the following lane closures are scheduled from 9 p.m. to 10 a.m.:

I-95 Southbound

Mile Marker 145 at Aquia Creek Bridge in Stafford County

  • Thursday: A single lane will close at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. for a bridge rehabilitation project. Double lane closures will end at 4:30 a.m. A single lane will remain closed until 10 a.m. The bridge is located at mile marker 145, north of Exit 143 (Route 610/Garrisonville).

Mile Marker 137 at Potomac Creek Bridge in Stafford County

  • Thursday: Expect alternating single lane closures from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for bridge inspection. The bridge is located at mile marker 137, just after Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway).

I-95 Northbound

Exit 118 (Route 606/Mudd Tavern Road) On- and Off-Ramps in Spotsylvania County

  • Tuesday – Friday: Expect flagging operations and intermittent stops at the I-95 northbound on- and off-ramps from Mudd Tavern Road during the day to allow crews to mill and pave for the new traffic alignment and bridge as part of the Exit 118 overpass replacement and road improvement project.

Mile Marker 137 at Potomac Creek Bridge in Stafford County

  • Thursday: Expect alternating single lane closures from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for bridge inspection. The bridge is located at mile marker 137, just before Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway).

Exit 140 (Courthouse Road) Stafford County

  • Thursday – Friday: Expect a single lane to close at 9 p.m. followed by double lane closures at 10 p.m. All northbound lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m.

Mile Marker 145 at Aquia Creek Bridge in Stafford County

  • Thursday: Expect single alternating lane closures at the bridge over the Aquia Creek starting at 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.

I-95 Northbound and Southbound

Mile Marker 129 in City of Fredericksburg to Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) Stafford County

  • Thursday – Friday: Expect a single lane closure between mile marker 129 which is near Exit 130 (Route 3) and Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) to allow crews to install temporary concrete barriers along the left shoulder of I-95 northbound and southbound. All lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m.on I-95 northbound and 10 a.m. on I-95 southbound.

Overhead message boards will warn drivers to stay alert for the work zones ahead and delays.
