The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) reports that all I-95 traffic in Caroline County will be briefly stopped twice between midnight and 4:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 15, for Dominion Energy utility work under permit.
Traffic will be stopped at mile marker 115, which is several miles south of exit 118 (Thornburg) in Spotsylvania County. Each traffic stop will last approximately 15 minutes.
Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control.
Dominion Energy crews will remove netting its crews installed over interstate at mile marker 115 earlier this month. The netting allowed utility work to proceed 24 hours a day without traffic stops or lane closures at most times. The netting has a vertical clearance of 21 feet over the interstate, which meets VDOT requirements to accommodate all vehicle heights.
I-95 traffic stops are scheduled to occur weather permitting. If work is canceled on September 15, the traffic stops will be rescheduled to occur between midnight and 4:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 16, with another potential backup date of Thursday, September 17.
In addition to the traffic stops, a single travel lane will close in the work zone on northbound and southbound I-95 at 9:00 p.m. Monday, September 14, and will reopen by 5:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 15.
