The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) reports that starting Monday, June 16, a single lane on the recently widened I-95 southbound off-ramp to Route 1 southbound at exit 126 (Spotsylvania) will be closed until early July in Spotsylvania County.

The lane closure is necessary to allow the contractor to safely correct paving, concrete and curb work to ensure a smooth travel surface on the off-ramp and Route 1 southbound.

At least one entrance to the Exxon gas station will be maintained at all times.

Weather permitting, work will take an estimated three weeks to complete.

Crews will place construction barrels to close the lane starting at around 5:00 a.m. on Monday, June 16.

Construction is nearing completion on the $15.9 million project that began in March 2023 on the I-95 southbound off-ramp, Route 1 and Southpoint Parkway. The project added a second right turn lane on the I-95 southbound off-ramp and widened Route 1 southbound to include an additional travel lane from the off-ramp to Southpoint Parkway.

Construction will be completed by August 2025.

A separate project recently started construction at exit 126. This $42 million project will:

  • Add an I-95 northbound auxiliary lane near exit 126
  • Widen Route 1 to add a second left turn lane onto I-95 northbound and southbound
  • Widen the I-95 on-ramps at the intersection
  • Build two noise barriers along the interstate

Construction on this exit 126 area project will be completed in September 2027.
