The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that regional bridge repairs will continue next week on Interstate 95 and the Girard Point Bridge in Philadelphia under a $44.6 million bridge improvement project to perform high-priority repairs on several structures on interstates in Philadelphia, Delaware and Bucks counties.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions:

  • Monday, July 24, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, lane closures are scheduled on northbound I-95 just south of Interstate 676 between Spruce Street and Race Street for bridge pier repair at Market Street; and
  • Wednesday, July 26, and Thursday, July 27, from 7:30 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, lane closures are scheduled on the northbound deck on the I-95 Girard Point Bridge between Penrose Avenue (Route 291) and Broad Street (Route 611) to allow crews to setup a long-term shoulder closure for bridge repair.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Repairs to the structures under this project include replacing rocker bearings, frozen sliding plate bearings and deck expansion joints; cleaning and painting steel beams; repairing substructure concrete; and reconstructing bearing pedestals.

The project also includes the replacement of high mast light poles along the I-95 corridor in Philadelphia and Delaware counties.
