DWI North Carolina | I-95 Exit Guide

Traveling I-95 through North Carolina this Halloween? State and local law enforcement agencies are increasing patrols and conducting sobriety checkpoints across all 100 counties now through November 1, 2026, as part of the annual “Booze It & Lose It” campaign.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) reminds motorists that, whether you’re passing through, stopping overnight or attending a Halloween celebration, plan ahead and never drive impaired by alcohol or drugs.

    What I-95 Travelers Should Know

    • Arrange a sober ride before celebrating. Choose a designated sober driver, book a taxi or rideshare where available, or make other safe transportation arrangements.
    • Never ride with an impaired driver. Make sure everyone in your group has a safe way back to their destination.
    • Report suspected impaired driving safely. Keep your distance and contact law enforcement when it is safe to do so.

According to NCDOT, North Carolina recorded 387 alcohol-related deaths and 105 drug-related deaths in 2025. Officers also made 594 DWI arrests during last year’s Halloween enforcement campaign.

For I-95 travelers, the message is simple: Keep your trip safe—drive sober, and plan your ride before the celebrations begin.
