The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is positioned to activate wrong way detection systems on I-95, specifically at Exit 40 southbound in Milford, Exit 42 northbound in West Haven, Exit 44 southbound in New Haven, and Exit 54 southbound in Branford. This project is scheduled to begin on Monday, July 21, and is anticipated to be completed by Tuesday, July 22, 2025.
The Wrong Way Detection System integrates advanced video technology to identify vehicles traveling in the incorrect direction. When a vehicle is detected, illuminated wrong way signs with red flashing lights are engaged to alert the driver of their error. Concurrently, the system provides real-time notifications to the CTDOT Highway Operations Center and local State Police Troop barracks, facilitating continuous monitoring and response to the situation.
Motorists should prepare for temporary closures of the mentioned exits on I-95 beginning Monday, July 21, 2025. The installation will be supported by traffic control teams, appropriate signage, and designated detours to assist drivers through the work zone. The operational schedule for this endeavor is set from 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., running from Monday night into Tuesday morning.
It’s important to note that adjustments to this timetable may be necessary due to weather-related delays or other unforeseen challenges. Drivers are urged to exercise caution and adhere to safe speed limits in the affected regions.
