The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) announced that 16 Tesla Supercharger ports at two I-95 highway service plazas are now available to drivers of compatible non-Tesla electric vehicles following a new agreement between MassDOT and Tesla. This expansion is another step in efforts to expand access to reliable EV charging statewide while improving convenience and the overall travel experience across Massachusetts.

The agreement immediately expands access to fast charging along Interstate 95 by opening eight existing Tesla Supercharger ports at each of the following locations:

    • Newton Service Plaza: I-95 southbound: Eight charging ports
    • Lexington Service Plaza: I-95 northbound: Eight charging ports

There are more than 11,000 publicly accessible EV charging ports available across Massachusetts. Together, the two locations provide 16 additional publicly accessible charging ports at MassDOT service plazas. Each location offers eight Superchargers capable of delivering up to 250 kilowatts and is available 24 hours a day. Access is available to eligible non-Tesla vehicles equipped with a SAE J3400 charging port, as well as compatible CCS1-equipped vehicles using an approved SAE J3400 DC adapter provided by Tesla or the vehicle manufacturer.

Drivers should confirm that their vehicle is compatible before arriving at a service plaza. Non-Tesla drivers can use the Tesla mobile application to add their vehicle information, identify compatible charging locations, view availability and pricing, provide payment information and begin a charging session.
