The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) will be suspending temporary lane closures on state highways and Interstates for the 2026 Labor Day holiday weekend. The suspension aligns with New York’s standard holiday travel policy to accommodate heavy tourist traffic and protect roadside workers.
Temporary lane closures for road and bridge construction projects across the state will be suspended during the following times:
- From: Friday, September 4 at 6:00 am
- To: Tuesday, September 8 at 6:00 am
While active, non-emergency paving and construction operations are paused, drivers must remain cautious of the following exceptions:
- Long-term stationary work zones: Work zones utilizing permanent concrete barriers will remain in place. Lanes may still be shifted or narrowed in these areas.
- Emergency repairs: Emergency work or immediate safety responses can still require temporary lane restrictions at any time.
- Speed enforcement: Automated work zone speed enforcement cameras remain active across NYSDOT corridors to ensure safety in semi-permanent work zones.
