The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) has announced a temporary suspension of construction activities along many of the state’s major highways. This pause is designed to ease travel during a particularly busy time, ensuring a smoother and more efficient journey for all road users.
In an effort to accommodate the increased volume of holiday travelers, wherever feasible, construction projects on Interstate highways, US routes, and significant North Carolina routes will be put on hold. This includes the suspension of lane closures, which are often a source of congestion and delays.
This suspension is set to coincide with the Thanksgiving holiday period, a time when many families travel to reunite with loved ones. The suspension will remain in effect through Monday, December 1, 2025. By halting construction work, the NCDOT aims to enhance the travel experience, reduce potential stress associated with holiday traffic, and prioritize the safety and convenience of those on the road during this festive period.
