According to AAA, this year a record number of Americans will be traveling over the Thanksgiving holiday and driving remains the most popular mode of travel. This Thanksgiving nearly 51 million Americans are planning a trip, the highest in a dozen years.

This year’s top destinations for Thanksgiving include many popular east coast cities, as well as perennial family-friendly favorites. The most popular destinations this Thanksgiving, based on AAA.com bookings, are:

  2. Anaheim, California
  3. New York City, New York
  4. Honolulu, Hawaii
  5. Las Vegas, Nevada
  6. Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
  7. Cancun, Mexico
  8. San Francisco, California
  9. Kahului, Maui, Hawaii
  10. Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Other Popular destinations include:

  1. San Diego, California
  2. New Orleans, Louisiana
  3. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
  4. Seattle, Washington

AAA will rescue thousands of motorists this Thanksgiving AAA expects to rescue more than 330,000 motorists this Thanksgiving, with the primary reasons being dead batteries, flat tires and lockouts. AAA recommends that motorists check the condition of their battery and tires and pack emergency kits in their vehicles before heading out on a holiday getaway. Drivers should have their vehicles inspected by a trusted repair shop, such as one of the nearly 7,000 AAA Approved Auto Repair facilities across North America. Detours, Lane and Ramps Close for Construction on I-95 in Southern Florida  

Construction on Interstate 95 in south Florida will result in multiple lane and ramp closures, detours and possible traffic delays according to the Florida Department of Transportation. Impacts are as follows:

I-95 from the Golden Glades Interchange in Miami-Dade County to Broward Boulevard in Broward County

  • Up to three southbound lanes of I-95 from Sunrise Boulevard in Broward County to the Golden Glades Interchange in Miami-Dade County will be closed as needed through Thursday between 9:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. At least two lanes will remain open at all times. Entrance and exit ramps will be closed as needed in the work zone. Detours will be clearly marked and electronic signs will advise drivers in advance.
  • Up to three northbound lanes of I-95 from the Golden Glades Interchange in Miami-Dade County to Sunrise Boulevard in Broward County will be closed as needed through Thursday between 9:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. Entrance and exit ramps will be closed as needed in the work zone. Detours will be clearly marked and electronic signs will advise drivers in advance.
  • Northbound and southbound express lanes will be closed as needed through Thursday between 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. Driver should use the non-tolled general use lanes.

I-95 from south of Broward Boulevard to north of Commercial Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale

  • The northbound inside lane of I-95 from Davie Road to Commercial Boulevard will be closed Sunday, June 19 through Thursday, June 23 and Sunday, June 26 through Thursday, June 30 between 10:30 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.

I-95 from north of Commercial Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale to south of SW 10th Street in Deerfield Beach

  • The southbound inside lane of I-95 from north of Cypress Creek Road to Oakland Park Boulevard will be closed Tuesday, June 14 through Friday, June 17 between 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.
  • The southbound inside lane of I-95 from north of Sample Road to Copans Road will be closed Tuesday, June 21 through Friday, June 24 between 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.

I-95 Interchange from Hillsboro Boulevard to SW 10th Street

  • The I-95 southbound exit ramp to SW 10th Street will be fully closed through Friday between 9:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. Motorists can detour via Hillsboro Boulevard.
  • The outside lanes of I-95 southbound between Hillsboro Boulevard and SW 10th Street will be closed through Friday with the first lane closing at 9:00 p.m., the second lane closing at 10:00 p.m. and the third lane, if necessary, closing at 12:30 a.m. until 5:00 a.m.
  • Two westbound lanes of SW 10th Street at I-95 will be closed through Friday between 9:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.
