Delays, Congestion for I-95 Construction in Virginia

The Virginia Department of Transportation reports that drivers should anticipate daytime and overnight work zones on Interstate 95 northbound and southbound in the Fredericksburg area with various construction activities and preliminary engineering work underway on the interstate for several projects:

  • I-95 at Exit 140 (Courthouse Road) Reconfiguration project
  • I-95 Southbound Rappahannock River Crossing
  • I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension
  • I-95 Northbound Rappahannock River Crossing

Weather permitting, the following lane closures are scheduled through early Saturday, March 9:

I-95 Northbound

Exit 118 (Mudd Tavern Road/Spotsylvania) to Exit 130 (Route 3/Fredericksburg)

  • Tuesday, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Expect a mobile operation with alternating single lane closures. Crews will be replacing the reflective lens on the raised pavement markers. Motorists should expect slow moving construction equipment and possible delays near the mobile work zone. The mobile work zone will periodically pull over to allow congestion to clear.

Near Exit 130 (Route 3/Fredericksburg) to Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway/Stafford County)

  • Monday – Friday, 9:00 p.m. – 4:30 a.m.
  • Friday – Saturday, 10:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.

Expect a single lane closure on I-95 northbound at mile marker 129, near Exit 130 (Route 3) in Fredericksburg, and continuing on to Exit 136/Centreport Parkway. Construction activities continue for the I-95 Southbound Rappahannock River Crossing project and preliminary engineering work for the future I-95 Northbound Rappahannock River Crossing.

Exit 133 (Route 17/Falmouth)

  • Tuesday – Thursday, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Expect a single left lane closure on I-95 northbound near Exit 133 in Stafford. Expect heavy truck traffic between mile markers 132 and 134 during the day. Be alert to trucks slowing down to enter or exit the median at various construction entrances throughout the work zone. Work zone is for construction activities for the I-95 Southbound Rappahannock River Crossing and preliminary engineering work for the future I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project.

Exit 133 (Route 17/Falmouth) to Exit 143 (Route 610/Garrisonville)

  • Wednesday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Expect a mobile operation with alternating single lane closures between these interchanges in Stafford. Crews will be replacing the reflective lens on the raised pavement markers. Motorists should expect slow moving construction equipment and possible delays near the mobile work zone. The mobile work zone will periodically pull over to allow congestion to clear.

Mile Marker 139-142 (Near Exit 140/Courthouse Road) and Exit 148 (Quantico)

  • Thursday, 9:30 m. – 3:30 p.m.

Expect a single lane closure on I-95 northbound between mile marker 139 and mile marker 142, which is near Exit 140 (Route 630/Courthouse Road) and Exit 143 (Route 610/Garrisonville). Crews will then move to mile marker 147 and Exit 148 (Quantico) for preliminary engineering work for the future I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project.

Exit 140 (Route 630/Courthouse Road)

  • Monday – Thursday, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Expect a single right lane closure on I-95 northbound near Exit 140 in Stafford to allow crews to remove construction barriers and install new guardrail as part of the project to relocate the Exit 140 interchange and reconfigure it to a diverging diamond.

I-95 Southbound

Exit 148 (Quantico) to Exit 133 (Route 17/Falmouth)

  • Wednesday – Thursday, 9:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
  • Friday, 9:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Expect a mobile operation with alternating single lane closures in between these interchanges in Stafford. Crews will be replacing the reflective lens on the raised pavement markers. Motorists should expect slow moving construction equipment and possible delays near the mobile work zone. The mobile work zone will periodically pull over to allow congestion to clear.

Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway/Stafford County) to Exit 130 (Route 3/Fredericksburg)

  • Monday − Thursday, 9:00 p.m. – 10:00 a.m.
  • Thursday – Friday, 9:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m.
  • Friday – Saturday, 10:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.

Expect a single lane closure on I-95 southbound between mile marker 135 (south of Exit 136/Centreport Parkway) and Exit 130 (Route 3). Construction activities underway for the I-95 Southbound Rappahannock River Crossing and preliminary engineering work for the future I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project.

Exit 130 (Route 3/Fredericksburg) to Exit 118 (Mudd Tavern Road/Spotsylvania)

  • Tuesday, 9:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
