Rolling Roadblock, Major Delays Expected on I-95 in Delaware August 20

The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) announces that a planned motorcycle rally sponsored by America’s 9/11 Foundation is expected to delay northbound I-95 traffic on Saturday morning, August 20. The America’s 9/11 Ride is an annual memorial tribute event to honor the heroes, volunteers, and victims who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. According to sponsors this will be the last year for the event.

No traffic will be allowed to pass the escorted riders in Delaware as they make their way north from Washington, D.C. to New York City. Motorists should expect major delays on I-95 northbound as the riders near the I-95 Newark Toll Plaza at approximately 10 a.m. This is because their rolling road block will decrease in speed as the bikers approach the I-95 Newark Toll Plaza. This event will also require the temporary closure of I-95 northbound on-ramps from the I-95 Newark Toll Plaza for several minutes until the procession passes each on-ramp.

All on-ramps to I-95 from the Delaware/Maryland line to I-295, and all on-ramps along I-295 will be closed while the procession passes (DE 896, DE 273, DE 1, DE 141, U.S. Route 13 and DE 9).

Message boards will display traffic related messages to warn of ramp closures that are caused by this event. Information will also be posted on DelDOT’s radio station, WTMC 1380 AM.
