The Maryland Transportation Authority has completed construction of the new Park and Ride lot at the intersection of MD 924 and Woodsdale Road, near the I-95 interchange at MD 24/MD 924 in the Abingdon area of Harford County. The new facility is expected to open Monday, June 7, and is part of the MDTA’s $1.1 billion I-95 Express Toll Lanes (ETL) Northbound Extension program to relieve congestion and improve travel along the I-95 corridor.

The Park and Ride has 265 spaces and includes bicycle facilities and accommodations for transit connections for Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration (MDOT MTA) and Harford County bus service. Sidewalks have been extended along northbound MD 924 and into the Park and Ride facility.

Access to and from the Park and Ride is provided along MD 924 using a right-in and right-out entrance and exit. Additional access is provided via Woodsdale Road.

The MDTA is continuing the I-95 ETL Northbound Extension between MD 43 and MD 24, completing more than 10 miles of improvements. Governor Hogan announced the $1.1 billion program in June 2018. These important traffic relief initiatives will benefit Marylanders throughout the Baltimore region by giving drivers a safer and more efficient commute.

In addition to the I-95 northbound roadway improvements, the MDTA is replacing multiple bridges that are more than 50 years old and providing several new noise walls. Construction activities continue with the replacement of the Clayton Road overpass and the Abingdon Road overpass. Construction is just starting on two additional projects: extending the northbound ETL over six miles from north of MD 43 to just south of MD 152; and constructing a southbound I-95 noise wall between the Big Gunpowder Falls and New Forge Road.

Additionally, the I-95 interchange at MD 152 will be replaced, with construction anticipated to commence in winter 2021/2022. During the interchange reconstruction, the existing Park and Ride at MD 152 will be temporarily closed and lot users will be encouraged to utilize this new Park and Ride at MD 24/MD 924. A new Park and Ride at MD 152 will be constructed after the interchange reconstruction is complete. The new MD 152 Park and Ride site will be shifted, but will remain in the area of Old Mountain Road.

The ETL Northbound Extension will be completed in multiple segments and is expected to open to traffic in 2024 through MD 152, and in 2027 through MD 24.
